If you live in Westminster you know it’s not all about Highway 36 and Interstate 25. This is a fast-growing, healthy community with access to many options for the suburban outdoorsman or sports enthusiast. There’s also the excitement of a quick 20-minute drive from Denver to the south and a short drive to the mountains to the west. Most of the homes in the area look pretty nice despite the extreme weather. How does your home look by comparison? Maybe it just needs a quick coat of fresh paint.

The most important wall paintings in the Abbey are from the late 13th century i.e. the figure of St Faith in her chapel and the figures of Christ with St Thomas and St Christopher in the south transept. The series of 14th century paintings of the Apocalypse and the Last Judgement in the Chapter House are the most extensive.

Or, does it sound like something you want no part of? Chances are, if you seek quality, you would likely not hire these people, right? You may ask, what’s the difference? A painter is a painter! Right?

As you scrape, you may find that the wood has turned gray or black in some areas. Check for rot by probing these areas with a nail. Spots that are discolored but firm are simply weathered. Weathered wood doesn’t hold paint very well, so sand away the gray surface. If you find soft areas, you’ve got rot. Small, shallow soft spots can be dug out and repaired with a two-part filler such as Minwax High Performance Wood Filler. But when rot is deep and widespread, it’s best to replace the entire piece of wood.
To get basic measurements, measure the length and width of each wall you want to paint in inches. Multiply the length and height together, and divide by 144. This will give you the square footage for each wall. A gallon of paint typically covers around 400 square feet. In some cases, you may need a primer 2 first, then a single coat of paint, meaning that you may need one gallon of primer and one gallon of paint to cover 400 square feet. However, if the wall requires multiple coats, this will increase the total amount of square footage required, and therefore the amount of paint.
The exterior of residential and commercial buildings is also exposed to the elements like the hot sun, humidity, cold rains, strong winds, and sometimes snow and very cold temperatures. Over its natural lifetime, the binders in paint products eventually break down leading to cracking and peeling of paint. When moisture gets through the paint and into the material that the exterior is made of, it can wreak havoc on your outside wall with mildew or mold. Getting the exterior repainted right can provide a degree of protection for the exterior surface of your home or commercial building. It can give needed support for the exterior to the last longer even though facing duress from the elements.
Ceilings may require just as much prep as the walls depending on the situation. Water damage and fixing cracks in ceilings is often a costly necessity. The added cost is due to the difficulty of performing prep work like sanding, patching, and priming an overhead surface and safe ladder work.
To give you some more insight, let’s look into each painting surface type and the considerations when coming up with a cost for each.
